Brighton Soccer Club
Paul Trimboli

Without doubt Brighton SC's most famous son is Paul Trimboli.

"Trimmers" played his junior soccer at Brighton before leaving to join the Australian Institute of Sport.  He first represented Australia at the 1985 World Youth Championship Finals in China, followed by the 1987 World Youth Cup Finals in Chile, before embarking on a glittering career in the National Soccer League, where he won the NSL Under 21 Player of the Year in 1988 & 1989.

Paul Trimboli went on to win 46 full caps (and score 16 goals) for Australia, and played an incredible 17 seasons in the NSL with South Melbourne FC - where he was an integral part of three NSL championship-winning sides, and holds South Melbourne's records for both games played (430) and goals scored (115).  He is one of only four players to have twice won the prestigious Johnny Warren Medal (the others being fellow Australian internationals Mark Viduka, Damian Mori and Scott Chipperfield).

Paul Trimboli is widely regarded as being the best Australian player never to have played professionally overseas.  He currently (2006) works in the media as a commentator, covering the A-League and the Victorian Premier League.

Another goal for Trimmers!

Paul Trimboli, aged 10, scores against East Bentleigh at Dendy Park in 1979
