Welcome to the 2018 Season

Brighton Soccer Club, Thu Apr 12, 2018 11:21PM

Dear Member,

Welcome to the Club for 2018! It is great to have you and your family as part of Victoria’s largest community soccer club!

The Season Start for Most Teams

The main season commences for almost all teams this Saturday 14 April and Sunday 15 April - good luck for your opening games!

Senior Men

Our Senior Men have already commenced - our team did a fantastic job in the FFA Cup and have had a great start to the season under new coach Darren Duffy, our Men's Firsts are currently top of the ladder, see:
http://websites.sportstg.com/team_info.cgi?id=16774017&client=1-8746-124135-0-0&compID=478209&a=LADDER

Our Men's Firsts are away this week, 8:30pm Friday at Collingwood (would love to see you there!), and then the following week you can come down and see them at Dendy Sat 21st 3:00pm vs Boroondara.

Senior Women - Bring your Girls down this Sunday 3pm!

Our Senior Women are looking to continue their success under coach Anthony Maguire! See them play their opening game vs Sandringham in the Local derby, at Dendy 3pm Sunday. On Red Pitch, in front of the pavilion.

Bring your junior team down and cheer them on!

Matildas - check out the AFC

As you will know, we are proudly Victoria’s largest girls and women's club. We are delighted that the Matildas are currently #4 in the world and don’t forget to catch the highlights of the Asian Women's’ Cup this week and next. Unfortunately games are in Jordan and only on Foxtel, but you can catch online highlights at https://matildas.footballaustralia.com.au/

New Clubroom, Café, Bar

We are delighted to be moving in properly to our new Clubroom. This is obviously a huge improvement on former facilities, and thanks again to all Club Members who have been part of this development.

The Clubroom incorporates our Café and Bar - please support them both!

Café will be open from Saturday, our Bar will take a few weeks as we finalise licencing.

Parking

Parking will remain a challenge for members. With the construction of the carpark, unfortunately the number of bays has been reduced. There is additional parking open on the “tennis triangle” grassed area.

Please always drive slowly and exercise caution, as there are always young kids around. Never be in a rush in the car park.

Drop Off Zone - there is a clear Drop Off Zone adjacent to the new Clubroom. We hope this will make things easier.

As with last year, we will publish the weekly pitch allocations with map on our website. We encourage all members to consider parking in surrounding streets proximate to where they are playing.

Grounds

Stages 4 & 5 of the grounds (closest to Cummins Road) have been renovated over summer. Unfortunately there have been some delays and we expect this area to be open end of May. When ready, these new grounds will be used for matches only this season, to help the new grass.

Training space remains constrained and we thank you for your patience during this last year of renovations.

Parent Responsibility

Just a reminder that parents are responsible for your kids. The Club is not a childcare service and does not take medical responsibility for your kid. Our policy is that there must be a responsible parent in attendance for your kid (who is not the coach), so please work out with other parents to always have some parents around.

Help Your Club - Volunteer and Paid Opportunities

Brighton Soccer Club needs your help! We run on the generous support of over 300 volunteers.

Specific areas where we are seeking further help are:

  • Partnerships - we have strong partnerships with Melbourne City FC and other groups and are looking for one or more people to help build this further
  • Sponsorships - we enjoy the support of a variety business groups and would like help to do this better
  • Events - we coordinate a number of events through the year, if you like to organise parties, then please get in touch
  • Administrative support - we have a paid opportunity for a part-time and seasonal assistant to our administrator
  • Website - we wish to commence a project to revamp our website, if you have skills and interest in this area, please put your hand up
  • Communications - we are looking for help to develop and coordiante our social media

I would be interested to hear from you if you can make a small or large contribution, in any area. Please contact me direct on president@brightonsc.org.au or another committee member.

New Volunteers and Team

Amongst our many volunteers and helpers, I would like to welcome several new senior members of the team for 2018:
Dean Corke - leading U5-U7 Miniroos
Tony Kiers - leading the U8-U9 Miniroos Boys
Anthony Maguire - leading the Senior Women
Ruth Kyte - former President who has rejoined and leading Operations
Sue Collins - leading our Admin

Thank you to all for the great preparations for the 2018 season. Please remember to thank and support your volunteer coaches and managers when you get the chance!

Have a great season!

Go Brighton!

Kind regards
