What levels do the players compete in?

Brighton SC competes in Football Victoria (FV) Community competition.

Areas of the Club are broken up into playing divisions:
  • JoeyRoos = under 5 (U5) - under 7 (U7)
  • MiniRoos = U8 - U11
  • Juniors = U12 - U18
  • Seniors = U19+

There are three levels in MiniRoos:
  • Joeys -  beginners/friendship teams
  • Wallabies - experienced players
  • Kangas -  most skilled/abled players (graded by invitation)

In the Junior division, teams are graded A/B/C/D etc with 'A' being the highest grade. Players will be allocated to teams based on previous playing history (if any) and through gradings and observation.

How does my child join a team?

In MiniRoos, teams are based on the year of birth (i.e. if your child is turning 10 in 2026 then they will play in the under 10 competition) and we aim to allocate players from the same school to eligible teams. There is flexibility for players to play up/down an age group based on their peer level at school. Please mention any friendship requests/school requests when registering.

In Juniors, teams are strictly based on age eligibility and must be applicable to the year of birth.

When is training held?

  • JoeyRoos  = Saturday morning sessions only
  • MiniRoos = one weekday training session and weekend games
  • MiniRoos Kanga = two weekday training sessions and weekend games
  • Junior Teams = two weekday training sessions and weekend games

Training sessions are determined by the Coach of each team and will be advised to the team once teams are finalised. We appreciate everyone has busy schedules; however due to the sheer number of players and considering the generosity of our volunteer coaches, we are unable to accommodate individual player preferences and appreciate everyone's willingness to go with majority and coach availability.

When are games played?

Games are played on either a Saturday or a Sunday depending on the division your child is playing but they will be always played on the same day of the weekend for the season. Full details can be found in the specific age/gender categories in the Soccer FAQ section of this website.

What happens if it rains?

Soccer is a winter sport and as such, rain is part of the deal! Safety is our priority though and we will never train or play if it unsafe to do so. Hail, electrical storms, or extreme heat will see training/games cancelled or postponed. Heavy rainfall that has affected our pitches may also result in changes to scheduled sessions. The club will advise Coaches on our approach to these situations as well as post on our website and social media channels to alert all players.

I would like to Volunteer, how can I help?

Volunteers are the backbone of our Club and without the generosity of parents and guardians, we would not be able to do what we do. We are always in need of passionate volunteers to support us in the roles of:
  • Team Coach
  • Team Managers
  • Parent Referees, Lines Persons, and Game Marshals

All volunteers (as well as staff) need to hold a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC) in the State of Victoria. This service is free for Volunteers and registering is easy. Please visit www.vic.gov.au/working-with-children-check for more information.
